There's a group in the St.Louis area that supports donated gowns for girls who can't afford these things for "prom". How sad. I give $$ to this. I remember being a poor dumbazzed kid who couldn't do the tux crap to go to the prom...went in a regular old suit (PN Hirsh if I remember correctly) with a similarly attired girl. What a crock of sheetola. We had a good time. I remember looking at the "in crowd" and wishing I could be them...and now? They are losers...who peaked at 17.
Look into the "Cinderella Project". A simple way to make someone who might go on to discover "penicillin" or something similar but who feels like a loser 'cause her parents can't fund a christian dior or lexus or some such crap for her prom feel special for a little while.
