Our house has stone landscaping...over time and gravity, the stones roll down....how do they spread the stone? Trying to get a few loads (?) to cover the bare spots. I don't have a place to dump the stone though. There is a quarry by Camp Bagnell, anyone ever use them? Not sure how to get it to the lakeside of the house--5 gal bucket???? Mad

I'm not sure where the river rock actually comes from but I've always used Lake Ozark Sand and Gravel and their pricing and service has been good.
The landscapers will use chutes made out of aluminum or 8-10" PVC pipe split in half to move the rock down the hill. They will attach the lengths of pipe together and then run water with a garden hose and dump the rock in the pipe and the water lets it slide right down the pipe. It works pretty slick and that is how the crews did some of my landscape rock a few years back. I have also hauled HUNDREDS of buckets myself over the years.

That makes sense Terry. Any idea how much it runs or how they measure? Cubic yard? Truck load? Dreading the 5 gal bucket routine!!

I dig the stones out of my lawn and toss them on my neighbor's rock yard.

Thanks Cajun, I may take you up on it!

Lake Ozark Gravel charges $20.00 a ton. Can deliver up to 15 tons for one delivery fee. One ton of the standard 2" covers a 10x10 area if the area is bare and you want it a few inches thick.

JZ......I don't know if Lake Ozark Gravel Company does this or not, but..........the quarry I always dealt with in Illinois had a whole bunch of glass quart jars in their windowsill filled with the various types of stone they sold. You could actually see what you were buying before it was delivered. If they don't do that, perhaps they would be willing to escort you out into "the yard" so you could see the different piles of stone they have available..........just a thought.

Thanks BB. They are going to take me out on the yard Friday afternoon to see if the stone is the same. They are pretty sure that they did the original install for the builder though. --JZ

Do the rock guys put down the black tarp weed barrier before the rock a yard. My back yard s pretty steep. I would think it would make the rock slide down the hill and into the lake. If they don't put down the weed barrier won't the weeds just cm back through the rock?

They should; ours was that way. However, over time weeds will find a way to grow on top of the weed barrier. I do use Roundup on a small section, but a propane torch, with extension wand, works real well and doesn't pollute the lake.

As soon as we switched from rock landscaping to grass, our neighbor went from "natural cover" to rock. The rock guy didn't put down a weed barrier and the current owners are dealing with the headache of weed control. And the end of the cove has a nice rock beach from the heavy rains washing the rock downhil.

Salt will kill anything. Throw rock salt around where the weeds grow and a hose down or rain will dissolve the salt allowing it to soak in the ground and not only kill the weeds but prevent anything from growing for a long time.

To much water or a gulley washer will wash the salt away. You want just enough water to let the disolved salt soak into the ground.

this is what they did to our neighbors yard as they rocked it. one guy walked around with a bucket of rock salt throwing handfuls around. it lasted for a year or so, then they have to re-salt .
